MORE TO LEARN AND EXPLORE

East Yellowstone National Park offers a variety of cold and warm weather activities at offsite venues – all wrapped in nature’s beauty and wonder. The lodges and meeting facilities in the East offer opportunities for various accommodations and meeting spaces.

Large hotels, lodges, guest and dude ranches are known as The Lodges of East Yellowstone. They are in towering pines and next to sparkling mountain streams. There are adventures in Yellowstone National Park and Cody, Wyoming. Yellowstone is rich in history. You can walk in the steps of Buffalo Bill Cody or hike the trails of the early mountain men.

Natural Wonders – East Yellowstone is the home of the world’s most famous geyser, Old Faithful which is probably the most photographed wonder in Yellowstone. There are also colorful hot springs and pools located throughout the park.

Wild Animals – More wild animals live in Yellowstone than elsewhere in the United States. These animals are not housed in a zoo but live in their natural habitat. Visitors will likely see several animals such as grizzly bears, gray wolves, or a wild bison herd. Bald and golden eagles fly through the sky, trumpeter swans swim in the lakes and streams, and the moose go anywhere they want. Visitors should know that Yellowstone is home to these glorious, undomesticated creatures. They are best viewed from a distance. Avoid petting or feeding animals no matter how cute, cuddly or friendly they appear.

The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone – The canyon is located north of Lake Yellowstone. The Grand Canyon has pink and yellow canyon walls that form the sides of three waterfalls. This place is so beautiful that the overlook at the Lower Falls is known as Artist’s Point.

Other Outdoor Activities – You can go rafting and paddling, camping, visiting cowboy life, hunting for rocks and fossils, and discovering Native American culture. There is fly fishing, bait fishing, and spin fishing. If you prefer more remote waters, you can get on a horse and ride into the backcountry to find your fishing destination. Or you can get on a gentle horse and ride through the not-so-gentle terrain. There are dozens of trails for beginners or experienced riders. Pick your horse and choose your trail.

Winter Activities – Winter generally begins in the 3rd week of December. It runs to the end of February. The weather can be cold and crazy during this time, and most park roads are closed. You’ll need to get a tour with a snowmobile or snow coach to visit parts of Yellowstone. During the winter months, most of the park is closed to vehicles. Park amenities at Mammoth and Old Faithful are open for the season, with fewer visitors. Yellowstone National Park might start closing as the leaves turn brown and the nights grow cold, but that only means it’s ski weather! Several ski slopes near East Yellowstone cater to beginners, pros, and those looking for a true challenge. Stay in the perfect cabin, lodge, or home so you can take a short, leisurely trip to and from the slopes!

Golf – Yellowstone itself may not have a golf course, but there are multiple world-class courses a short drive away. Big Sky Resort, The Reserve at Moonlight Basin, and The Club at Spanish Peaks offer 18-hole courses. Island Park Village Resort and the Timberline Golf Course offer smaller, 9-hole courses.
