When organizing a travel event for business, group transportation – the need to get participants from one location to another – doesn’t have to be limited to taxis, limousines or shuttle vans.  Using transportation that is unique to a specific city, such as rickshaws in Japan, can add interest as well.  If you’re looking for some inspiration on how to use transportation as part of the business group travel experience here are a few ideas:

Environmentally-Friendly Transportation

The world is becoming increasingly conscious of the environment, which means there are more green options than ever before for transportation. If your business travel takes your group to London, consider using the Radio Taxis Group, which boasts 2,500 classic London black cabs—all of which are carbon neutral. Or, consider any number of eco-friendly buses all around the world, including biodiesels and fuel cells.

Train Travel

Trains can be a great way to combine travel with scenic views and relaxation. Outside the US you’ll find some amazing luxury trains. The Royal Scotsman around England and Scotland, South Africa’s Blue Train, and the famous Simplon-Orient-Express from Paris to Istanbul are just a few examples.

Biking for Business

Bicycle-sharing systems are increasingly popular and can be found in more than 50 countries. Bike paths offer exploration that can’t be replicated using standard, motorized transportation.  Biking can also be a great way to explore a local area while promoting a healthy lifestyle.  Explore scenic mountain views.  Visit historic landmarks or antique ruins.  See miles of coastal or lakefront areas.  The Great Ocean road in Australia, Sun Moon Lake in Taiwan, Easter Island in Chile, the Great Divide Mountain Route in Canada, and Dordogone Valley in France are just a few ideas.

Tram/Trolley Transportation

Trolleys aren’t just used for fun in San Francisco.  In fact, there are tram systems in more than 350 cities around the world. Though tramways experienced a decline in popularity during the mid-20th century, the past thirty years have seen a rise in public acceptance and favor. What’s more, some cities are creating driverless trolleys. China unveiled the world’s first driverless tram in July 2017, and Knoxville should have a driverless trolley in place by 2018.

Charter Boats

If your business group travels to a coastal destination, charter boats provide yet another way to transport your event attendees.  These boats, normally used for vacation activities such as deep-sea fishing as an example, can transport people from one location to another.  Because these charter boats are in use nearly every day, those manning them often know the secret hideaways known only to locals.  Imagine spending a whole day or part of a day seeing sea life in the wild or catching seafood which can be prepared and dined on later a local hangout.  The calming sounds of water and sea along with a scenic view and fresh air doesn’t hurt, either.

Conclusion

Business groups will undoubtedly need to travel, but this can be more than a mere transfer from point A to point B. Rather than transportation alone, you can incorporate relaxation, dialogue and brainstorming, and unique experiences that travelers will remember.
